Celebrating over 175 Years of Faith & Hope
August 30, 2009 Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost 10:00 AM
O God our strength, without you we are weak and wayward creatures. Protect us from all dangers that attack us from the outside, and cleanse us from all evil that arises from within ourselves, that we may be preserved through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

OUR APPROACH TO GOD
Votum, Sentences – Psalm 15
Leader: O LORD, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill?
People: Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right, and speak the truth from their heart;
Leader: who do not slander with their tongue, and do no evil to their friends, nor take up a reproach against their neighbors;
People: in whose eyes the wicked are despised, but who honor those who fear the LORD; who stand by their oath even to their hurt;
Leader: who do not lend money at interest, and do not take a bribe against the innocent.
ALL: Those who do these things shall never be moved.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD
*Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Offering – “ I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light” Paul Manz
*Doxology (Hymnal #625)
*Offertory Prayer
O God, we know that all gracious giving and every good and perfect gift comes from you. We give thanks for all you have done for and given to us, most especially for the gift of your Son, Jesus. Help us, we pray, to use these gifts, following the example you have placed before us, of open-handed generosity and open-hearted welcoming, and to mirror the love so amply shown to those in need by your Son, Jesus Christ, under whose Mercy we pray. Amen.
Family Prayers, The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
