Celebrating 175 Years of Faith & Hope

February 10, 2008                            First Sunday in Lent                               10:00 a.m.

Prayer of the Day

Almighty and ever-living God, you hate nothing you have made, and you forgive the

sins of all who are penitent.  Create in us new and honest hearts, so that, truly repenting

of our sins, we may receive from you, the God of all mercy, full pardon and forgiveness through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you

and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

  Prayer of Confession

We confess that we listen to voices that are not your voice, Holy God, especially when they tell us what we want to hear.  We confess that we prefer to trust our own wishes rather than your wisdom.  We confess that we are so out of control that we eat fruit that is not intended for us.  Forgive us our immaturity, our pride, and our greed.  Teach us, again, to allow your Spirit within us to guide us in wise directions and faithful behavior.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried.  He descended into hell.  The third day he rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty.  From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen.

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.  Amen.

  Prayer of Dedication

            We know what is good:  to share all that you have entrusted to us, Generous Creator.  Receive these offerings and receive our hearts and souls.  May your blessing transform all that we are and all that we bring into all that you need.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.

  Family Prayers & Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever.  Amen.
