Celebrating 175 Years of Faith & Hope
May 11, 2008 Pentecost Sunday 10:00 a.m.
Prayer of the Day
O God, on this day you open the hearts of your faithful people by sending into us your Holy Spirit. Direct us by the light of that Spirit, that we may have a right judgment in all things and rejoice at all times in your peace through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Summary of the Law
Prayer of Confession
You have invited us here, mighty God, to be the members of your church. Hear our confession and renew your Holy Spirit within us. We want the church to be effective in teaching and showing the graciousness of Jesus to others. We confess that we come short of reflecting that graciousness in our daily lives. We pray for the strength of our church and of Christ’s church in the world. We confess that we have measured our giving by what others give and our church goals by the norms of other churches. We have neglected to pray for people and churches far away. Forgive our narrow views of what the church is. Renew us in Holy Spirit, that we may enlarge our vision and our own commitments, for the sake of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Prayer for Blessing on the Word
Anthem – “I Will Arise”
I will arise and go to Jesus, He will embrace me in His arms. In the arms of my dear Savior, Oh! There are ten thousand charms.
Teach me some melodious sonnet sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the amount, I’m fixed upon it. Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Come, thou fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace, streams of mercy never ceasing. Call for songs of loudest praise.
OUR RESPONSE TO THE WORD
*The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Offering - “Where Abideth Charity and Love” Charles Callahan
Offertory
*The Doxology: (Hymn #556): Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Prayer of Dedication
We worship you with these gifts, Holy God. They are in response to the grace and love out of which you have created us, and given us all that we have and all that we are. We ask your blessing and your guidance as these gifts are divided among the needs that may claim them. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Family Prayers & Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
